Big news in the music world as it was today announced that inMusic is preparing to bring one of music software’s biggest names into its portfolio. The company has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Native Instruments, guaranteeing it’s future, mere months after the Native filed for insolvency in a German court. This move now places the maker of Kontakt et Traktor alongside brands such as Akai Professional, Moog Music, M-Audio, Denon DJ, Numark, et Rane.
The acquistion from a business standpoint makes a lot of sense. Kontakt remains one of the dominant sampler platforms in modern production, with plenty of in-house libaries by Native Instruments. Traktor still has a long history in DJ workflows. Add iZotope and Plugin Alliance to the equation, and the acquisition becomes one of the more significant music-tech deals in recent memory.
However, those with eagle eyes, may have already seen this coming. In 2025, NKS support expanded to Akai Professional MPK et M-Audio Oxygen controllers, while Native Instruments sounds came to the MPC standalone platform. With this acquisition agreement now in place, that earlier partnership can reasonably be seen as a preview of where inMusic may want to take its hardware and software ecosystem.
For now, both companies are framing the deal around continuity. inMusic says Native Instruments products, services, platforms, and support will remain available while the transaction moves toward completion. The deal is expected to close in the coming weeks, subject to customary closing conditions.
The next question is how far they’ll plan to push integration. MPC is the obvious place to start, given last year’s collaboration. Controller mapping, bundled instruments, DJ workflows, and cross-brand software packages could also become part of the story.
However the question on everyone’s mind is, will this eventually be the end of Maschine, previously a competitor to MPC? Time will only tell, and it will be an interesting story to watch. We will keep you updated as more news hits regarding this colossal partnership.
