Over this past weekend two memorable, soulful artists performed at Delmar Hall in St. Louis, MO.
Brian Owens and the Deacons of Soul were the opening act and their energetic performance was contagious and got the crowd going. The groupโs melodic sound is full of emotion and drew the audience into every lyric throughout the entire set. At one point in the performance, the group performed their own rendition of โThis Little Light of Mineโ and let me tell you, Iโve never heard anything like it. The whole crowd was singing along and I felt like I was being taken to church. Brian and the Deacons of Soul were an amazing group to watch and to listen to.
The main act following them was Lola and the Kickbacks. Fronted by Lola Toben, the band has seven other members including her husband Bryan, each playing a different instrument: trumpet, saxophone, piano, drums, bass, backup vocal, and electric guitar. Lola is a powerhouse vocalist with the ability to captivate everyone in the room. The set was made up of pretty blues and purples, with her signature disco balls hanging in the air.
This fun, high energy performance was in celebration of Lolaโs new EP Tired of Waiting. What better way of releasing new music than to come back home and perform in a venue packed with family and friends?
If youโre a fan of R&B/Soul artists, Iโd definitely recommend checking out Lola and Brian!
