New Zealand-born singer-songwriter Lorde has continued her ascent to the top of the charts this week with “Royals”, booting Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” from the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
The track; which has been a slowly growing success has steadily risen up the charts since its release in March of 2013; topped sales with a total of 249,000 sales, beating Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus to the top spot.
When reached by Billboard for comment, Lorde had the following to say about her placement on the charts:
“It feels like a combination of my birthday, Christmas, and washing my hair after a month of not doing so,” Lorde beamed to Billboard exclusively upon learning of her coronation. “[I’m] very, very grateful for everyone’s love and kind words.”
