Sum 41

Sum 41, the iconic Canadian punk rock band, has announced its breakup after 27 years as a band. The news was first announced on the band’s official social media pages, where they thanked their fans and reflected on their incredible journey together.

Sum 41 was first formed in 1996 in Ajax, Ontario, and quickly rose to fame with their debut album, “All Killer No Filler,” in 2001, which featured hit singles such as “Fat Lip” and “In Too Deep.” The album was a massive success, selling over a million copies in the US and propelling the band to stardom.

Over the years, Sum 41 continued to release hit after hit. Their albums “Does This Look Infected?” and “Chuck” received critical acclaim. This further solidified their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the punk rock world.

In a statement released by the band, they explained their decision:

“Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives. We are forever grateful to our fans, both old and new, who have supported us in every way.

It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you, and we
wanted you to hear this from us first. Sum 41 will be disbanding.

We will still be finishing all of our current upcoming tour dates this year, and we’re looking forward to releasing our final album, “Heaven :x: Hell,” along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate.

Details will be announced as soon as we have them. For now, we look forward to seeing all of you skumfuks on the road and are excited for what the future will bring for each of us.

Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41.”

Notably, the band did not explicitly specify the reason for the breakup. However, we’re sure that after almost three decades of performing, the band is looking for some well-needed rest.

Either way, as one fan so aptly put it: “we got blink 182 back, but lost sum 41. this stings a bit”.

Sum 41 is one of the most iconic and influential pop-punk rock bands ever. Their music has inspired countless fans and bands, and their legacy will continue for generations. Hopefully, someday down the line, after their disbandment, they’ll reunite and give us even more great music.
