D.C. indie rockers The Walkmen have announced an indefinite hiatus set to begin after their last show next week.
Bassist/organist Peter Bauer had this to say about their “pretty extreme” hiatus:
โWe really just have no idea. I donโt think any of us wanted to write another Walkmen record. Maybe that will change down the line, maybe it wonโt, maybe weโll play shows. I think itโs weird to make a hubbub about something if thereโs nothing to really make a hubbub about. At the same time, I donโt think weโve been a gang properly for a long time, so thereโs not much to break up, I guess.โ
Hmm.. interesting. Do I detect a certain sourness to his tone? Why do bands feel the need to label an obvious breakup with the term “hiatus”? Wouldn’t it make more sense to just say, “hey, we’re not going to be making music for awhile until we need a paycheck”?
You can catch the band’s last show for a while, or possibly ever, on December 4th in Philadelphia at Union Transfer.
