If there is a group to watch right now, it’s the Stockholm-based outfit LINES. Their debut single “Weekends” is the kind of weirdly playable kitschy madness that drives audiences crazy. Their sound is art school avant-garde with dark, thumping 1980’s ambiance. It is indie-electronic with the kind of European feel that attracts hip US audiences. The track features oddly catchy, psychotic Britney Spears on LSD vocals that could almost appeal to the masses it mocks.
LINES has the dark, theatrical, club kid sound of Crystal Castles and the pissed off charisma of Mindless Self Indulgence. Among other acts who are trying desperately to be different, weird, and shocking, this group is genuine as hell. They have a truly crazy IDGAF attitude that musically works so well. I am more than excited to see more releases from LINES and hope they are well embraced by US audiences. Be one of the first to download “Weekends” today and check out some new music that will change up your summer playlist for the stranger and the better.
