Aberdeen, Maryland based, Reggae-Punk-Rock band, Ballyhoo<\/a>!<\/strong> Has kicked off their 2018 by going on the road.<\/p>\n

On January 26th, as part of their tour, they passed through my hometown Sanford, Florida, at West End Trading Company, celebrating the release of their latest single, \u201cThis Chick is Wack,\u201d which features Rebelution\u2019s Eric Rachmany<\/strong> and Reel Big Fish!<\/strong> This single combines both reggae and doo-wop, both styles which are typically incorporated into their music. For the first time, it\u2019s combined into a song. With its solid artist collaborations, this single could not have been pulled off any better.<\/p>\n

As a long-time fan of both Ballyhoo!<\/strong> And Rebelution<\/strong>, it was needless to say that I was excited for the release and to witness its live performance!<\/p>\n

I was lucky to not only cover one, but two of their Central Florida shows. The very next day on the 27th, they performed at New Smyrna Beach\u2019s Beachside Tavern.<\/p>\n

Both sets were opened up by the best of North Central Florida\u2019s local music.<\/p>\n

At Sanford, their set was opened up by locally based The Trees of Life<\/a><\/strong>, and St. Petersburg based, NoNeed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As someone who\u2019s spoken with the members of TToL and have seen them perform numerous times, they never disappoint me. I greatly enjoyed their performance of their hit, \u201cKing of the Mountain\u201d.<\/p>\n

NoNeed<\/strong> further drew in the crowd. It\u2019s never a dull moment with them as they take their beer break in the middle of their hit single, \u201cReggae Girl.\u201d With that song and \u201cWhy\u201d they added a Spanglish twist just because they can! They did it quite well, and got the crowd dancing!<\/p>\n

Finally, the long awaited moment, Ballyhoo!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

They kicked off their set with \u201cJameson and Ginger\u201d.\u00a0 Among the best tracks from \u201cGirls,\u201d they also sang some of their classics, like \u201cBeach Party\u201d, which was a highlight because it\u2019s a personal favorite of mine that expresses their gratitude for their fans. Other personal highlights were their performance of \u201cMorning Sunlight\u201d, and \u201cDiamonds\u201d.<\/p>\n

Overall it was an incredible night and what was better than the set list, was seeing their label mates show up for support, notably, the members of Kash\u2019d Out<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After the set, the band got to hang out with the fans, which is something they commonly do at every venue, and is the greatest highlight of all their shows.<\/p>\n

Their frontman, Howi Spangler<\/strong> took a moment to chat with me about his latest single, and upcoming plans for the rest of the year.<\/p>\n

The fans and myself have truly enjoyed the album, \u201cGirls,\u201d and it\u2019s been agreed that it\u2019s success would be hard to top.<\/p>\n

When asked about this, Howi stated,<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know, I guess you just gotta play, stay fresh and write real shit, and just come hard with the beats and the melodies. That\u2019s really all I can do, write the best songs you can, just have fun.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In regards to his latest single release, he stated, \u201cI\u2019m stoked, I\u2019m still excited! I\u2019ve been waiting, I wrote this song in November and then I scrambled, \u2018Guys! We\u2019re gonna record this song! I hit up Eric Rachmany<\/strong> and he was down to do it and the Reel Big Fish guys were all down! It worked out really nicely. I knew I wanted to put it out as soon as possible, to kick off the year. Now that it\u2019s out, everybody seems to dig it, so it\u2019s awesome!\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Whether it\u2019s at the studio or on the stage, Ballyhoo!<\/strong> never disappoints. They always give it their all. They truly enjoy what they do. Even more so, they love to see their fans jamming out, raging and singing along with them.<\/p>\n

Their growing fans travel many miles during their tours, which have resulted in lifelong friendships.<\/p>\n
