The duo of Tyler Joseph (vocals, piano, ukulele) and Josh Dun (drums) have built their brand around what critics have labeled \u201cschizophrenic pop\u201d, a sound that jumps from genre to genre with little transition. <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On paper, the description of Twenty One Pilots\u2019 sound may not seem particularly appealing, but the band\u2019s track record is happy to prove you wrong. Since their fourth album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was released a year ago, the band went from having moderate success in the alt-rock sphere to topping the Billboard 200 and and selling out stadiums across the globe. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; Despite what may have seemed like a shocking overnight success, Twenty One Pilots\u2019 rise to the top was no accident. The band signed to Fueled by Ramen in 2012, a pop-punk leaning label that has bred far more superstars than flops (Fall Out Boy, <a href=\"https:\/\/altwire.net\/es\/panic-at-the-disco-unveil-new-album-release-two-songs\/\">Panic! At The Disco<\/a>, fun., <a href=\"https:\/\/altwire.net\/es\/aint-it-fun-to-watch-paramores-new-video\/\">Paramore<\/a>, etc.).&nbsp;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vessel,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the band\u2019s first release under FBR, had modest chart performance upon its release, mainly due to the success of lead single <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DktBMxkLUIwY&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPiX3o4GIhCn77T8KXChPIvrKcRvNdiYMgFy\" data-lasso-id=\"1409\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DktBMxkLUIwY&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPiX3o4GIhCn77T8KXChPIvrKcRvNdiYMgFy\" data-old- rel=\"noopener\">\u201cHolding On To You\u201d<\/a><\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hype surrounding <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vessel<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> led to a slew of major festival appearances, including Firefly, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and many others. Twenty One Pilots\u2019 highly memorable live show, complete with the band\u2019s now-trademark ski masks, Dun\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DuY7KyxDWBQs&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPmX3o4GIhA33XKdhPPHhseB7ty8aoJRMgFy\" data-lasso-id=\"1410\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DuY7KyxDWBQs&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPmX3o4GIhA33XKdhPPHhseB7ty8aoJRMgFy\" data-old- rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">drum surfing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Joseph\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3Dmz8RFr6BwAs&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPmX3o4GIhBytOyzbrVSnyT1V_k3aJVhMgFy\" data-lasso-id=\"1411\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3Dmz8RFr6BwAs&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPmX3o4GIhBytOyzbrVSnyT1V_k3aJVhMgFy\" data-old- rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rafter climbing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, meant that no one in the crowd went home without remembering their set. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; The band\u2019s biggest break came when they were announced as the opening act for Fall Out Boy\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Save Rock and Roll<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> comeback tour with Panic! At The Disco, which gave Twenty One Pilots access to entire arenas full of the mainstream listeners they had to win over. However, much of the band\u2019s success can also be attributed to their rabid fanbase, otherwise known as the \u201cSkeleton Clique\u201d. It only takes a quick search of \u201ctwenty one pilots\u201d on Tumblr and Twitter to get access to tons of posts, fanart, and typical fandom drama that all revolve around the duo. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the outside, much of the Clique\u2019s actions may seem obsessive and, at times, off putting, but it\u2019s a testament to Twenty One Pilots\u2019 music and message that even a moderate fan is willing to dedicate a decent amount of their time to following them (True Life: a friend and I once stood in line for four hours during a flood just so we could get a barricade spot at our first 21P show). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7701 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altwire.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Blurryface_by_Twenty_One_Pilots.png\" alt=\"Blurryface_by_Twenty_One_Pilots\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p><em style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Album art&nbsp;courtesy of Fueled by Ramen and Reel Bear Media<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; Perhaps it is this calculated path to mainstream success that initially made <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> seem slightly inferior in relation to the rest of the band\u2019s catalog. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is, by no means, a bad album, but part of the album\u2019s purpose was to serve as a mainstream crossover. Unlike Twenty One Pilots\u2019 former work, the songs on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had to be more radio-friendly; Joseph seems to take note of this himself on <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DywvRgGAd2XI&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPqX3o4GIhD2oAuBisXQrKUx81Aqav5wMgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1412\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DywvRgGAd2XI&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPqX3o4GIhD2oAuBisXQrKUx81Aqav5wMgFy\" data-old->\u201cLane Boy\u201d<\/a><\/em>, rapping: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHonest\/<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s a few songs on this record that feel common\/<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m in constant confrontation with what I want and what is popping in the industry\u201d. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; Blurryface <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was definitely Twenty One Pilots\u2019 most experimental effort to date, adding in elements of reggae, dubstep, indie pop, and hip hop in ways the band previously hadn\u2019t explored before. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was also successful in producing some immediate gems and fan favorites (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DszE3DTbtqw8&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPuX3o4GIhCuKc8aDGWFSgGWnjRuHNYmMgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1413\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DszE3DTbtqw8&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPuX3o4GIhCuKc8aDGWFSgGWnjRuHNYmMgFy\" data-old->\u201c<em>Heavydirtysoul\u201d<\/em><\/a><em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1414\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/\" data-old->\u201cTear In My Heart\u201d<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DPw-0pbY9JeU&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPuX3o4GIhAH9H0ibRLq8_h0mwG0J9JNMgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1415\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DPw-0pbY9JeU&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPuX3o4GIhAH9H0ibRLq8_h0mwG0J9JNMgFy\" data-old->\u201cRide\u201d<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3D3J5mE-J1WLk&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPyX3o4GIhDKbduKfn3XpggeI3XU2mQHMgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1416\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3D3J5mE-J1WLk&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGPyX3o4GIhDKbduKfn3XpggeI3XU2mQHMgFy\" data-old->\u201cGoner\u201d<\/a><\/em>), but unlike the band\u2019s other three albums, some songs such as <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DMiPBQJq49xk&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGP2X3o4GIhBqjKD5rSsi1ikZC5ILVUJpMgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1417\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DMiPBQJq49xk&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGP2X3o4GIhBqjKD5rSsi1ikZC5ILVUJpMgFy\" data-old->\u201cPolarize\u201d<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DpJtlLzsDICo&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGP2X3o4GIhAnEs_FLG371YiW605ywkG1MgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1418\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DpJtlLzsDICo&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGP2X3o4GIhAnEs_FLG371YiW605ywkG1MgFy\" data-old->\u201cHometown\u201d<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;can arguably be categorized as fillers in comparison to the rest of the album.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There seems to be a schism amongst \u201colder\u201d Twenty One Pilots fans that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> simply doesn\u2019t hit as hard as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vessel<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> did. I remember discussing <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> lead single<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DHDI9inno86U&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGP6X3o4GIhBl6xEgz1AAW23ea-bstlNpMgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1419\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DHDI9inno86U&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGP6X3o4GIhBl6xEgz1AAW23ea-bstlNpMgFy\" data-old-> \u201cFairly Local\u201d<\/a><\/em> with my aforementioned friend upon the song\u2019s release, who resigned to calling the song just \u201calright\u201d. Musically and, at some points, lyrically, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pales a bit in comparison to it\u2019s predecessor. But the significance of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> does not rest solely in the songs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; What makes <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so weighty is the concept behind the album. The album\u2019s name stems from a character the band created during the album\u2019s recording. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3Dyx44NMDN0ws&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGP-X3o4GIhAzFyCnU6D_rZOB9tkO8Q6tMgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1420\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3Dyx44NMDN0ws&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGP-X3o4GIhAzFyCnU6D_rZOB9tkO8Q6tMgFy\" data-old->According to Joseph<\/a>, Blurryface \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">represents all the things that I as an individual, but also everyone around, are insecure about.&#8221; When listening to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, common themes in Twenty One Pilots\u2019 lyrics such as struggles with anxiety (<em>\u201cStressed Out\u201d, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DiE_54CU7Fxk&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGP-X3o4GIhB85Xzm2VTM1tPBXeYtu2yjMgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1421\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DiE_54CU7Fxk&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGP-X3o4GIhB85Xzm2VTM1tPBXeYtu2yjMgFy\" data-old->\u201cMessage Man\u201d<\/a><\/em>), depression (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3Dyqem6k_3pZ8&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGICY3o4GIhClqWrRlJ1_Us6jsGVcIje6MgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1422\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3Dyqem6k_3pZ8&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGICY3o4GIhClqWrRlJ1_Us6jsGVcIje6MgFy\" data-old->\u201cNot Today\u201d<\/a>, \u201cGoner\u201d<\/em>), and faith (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DMEiVnNNpJLA&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGICY3o4GIhAK5a-YrxSQec_zMQbjXVIXMgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1423\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DMEiVnNNpJLA&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGICY3o4GIhAK5a-YrxSQec_zMQbjXVIXMgFy\" data-old->\u201cDoubt\u201d<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DPbP-aIe51Ek&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGICY3o4GIhCnLHvvlo8WxTEA8yyCIJE1MgFy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1424\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sorry\/index?continue=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch%3Fv%3DPbP-aIe51Ek&amp;q=EgQtTAUnGICY3o4GIhCnLHvvlo8WxTEA8yyCIJE1MgFy\" data-old->\u201cThe Judge\u201d<\/a><\/em>) are all discussed, but this time the blame for all these struggles&nbsp;can be squarely placed on the idea of Blurryface. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; Much&nbsp;of the earlier Twenty One Pilots catalog discusses struggles and fears in a somewhat hopeless fashion, since stresses and triggers are portrayed as coming at Joseph from many unknown sources. On <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, all of Joseph\u2019s worries are caused by one entity: Blurryface. Though Joseph still has his struggles, he\u2019s much more hopeful that he will someday be able to rise above these problems&#8230;now that he is solely focused on overcoming Blurryface. Many Twenty One Pilots fans who have struggles similar to Joseph\u2019s find comfort in this concept. The concept of Blurryface gives them the strength to battle their own demons in the way that Joseph has. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"twenty one pilots: Stressed Out [OFFICIAL VIDEO]\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pXRviuL6vMY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; This leads us to the overwhelming smash hit off of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <em>\u201cStressed Out\u201d<\/em>. The song reached the number 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped rock\/alternative charts around the globe. The song\u2019s infectious beat and adorably nostalgic music video certainly played roles in the song\u2019s viral success.<em>&nbsp;\u201cStressed Out\u201d<\/em> is one of the stranger hits in recent memory. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cStressed Out\u201d<\/em> is one of the songs of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that invokes the character directly; on a mainstream radio station, it\u2019s surely odd&nbsp;hearing \u201cMy name\u2019s Blurryface and I care what you think\u201d as a song\u2019s hook without any context. In fact, <em>\u201cStressed Out\u201d<\/em> was only meant to be the introductory track to the character of Blurryface. It was only after <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/music-news\/billboard-cover-twenty-one-pilots-on-friendship-fans-fame-7325416\/\" data-lasso-id=\"1425\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/music-news\/billboard-cover-twenty-one-pilots-on-friendship-fans-fame-7325416\/\" data-old- rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">KROQ broke the track<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and noted a massive wave of listener response that<em> \u201cStressed Out\u201d<\/em> became a radio single. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The song\u2019s message about the worries of adult life and a yearning for the carefree days of childhood has clearly resonated deeply with the contemporary American listener. The song\u2019s popularity has been criticized as distinctly Millennial, with everyone from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/entertainment\/archive\/2016\/03\/one-thing-considered-stressed-out-an-anthem-of-millennial-anxiety\/470034\/\" data-lasso-id=\"1426\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/entertainment\/archive\/2016\/03\/one-thing-considered-stressed-out-an-anthem-of-millennial-anxiety\/470034\/\" data-old- rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Atlantic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the New York Post\u2019s perpetually negative <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2016\/03\/21\/millennials-need-to-put-away-the-juice-boxes-and-grow-up\/\" data-lasso-id=\"1427\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2016\/03\/21\/millennials-need-to-put-away-the-juice-boxes-and-grow-up\/\" data-old- rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kyle Smith<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> using the song as an excuse to analyze and\/or criticize the Millennial mindset. Perhaps this is the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; When I first got my copy of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> last May, I was coasting through my last few weeks of high school. I was trying to enjoy the last few months I would spend in my hometown with my friends and family, while simultaneously fretting over the impending realities of college, student loans, and unbridled independence. <em>\u201cStressed Out\u201d<\/em> resonated with me at a time when I needed the song most, but there are millions of other listeners with a million other reasons why the song resonates with them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Millennials have their own fun set of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smallbizlabs.com\/2014\/05\/millennials-standard-of-living-lower-than-parents.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1428\" data-old-href=\"https:\/\/www.smallbizlabs.com\/2014\/05\/millennials-standard-of-living-lower-than-parents.html\" data-old->generational problems<\/a>&nbsp;that vibe well with the song&#8217;s message<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who\u2019s to say an \u201cestablished\u201d adult from outside the Millennial generation doesn\u2019t want to return to a simpler time when they weren\u2019t stressed out?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; When looking back on a year of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, I was reminded of another one of my favorite albums: Green Day\u2019s influential <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Idiot.<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Idiot <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the voice for kids coming of age in a post-9\/11 society, with fears of terrorism and endless war abound, and a disillusionment of the standard suburban life ran rampant. Billie Joe Armstrong personified the fears of this time period in the characters: Jesus of Suburbia, St. Jimmy, and Whatsername, whose stories were written into the album. Though <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Idiot<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was mainly targeted towards youth, it\u2019s no secret that the album saw massive success amongst all age groups. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; Only time will tell if <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will end up being as much of a classic as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Idiot,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but the characteristics that made <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Idiot <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so impactful are there. Eleven years after <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Idiot, Blurryface <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">speaks to the next wave of kids who grew up in a recession, who are working longer than their parents for less results, who fear they might not be able to provide for their future family the way their parents provided for them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, like its comparison, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">personifies the issues that the next generation is facing, while also having a universal message that can relate to anyone\u2019s story. Whether or not Twenty One Pilots\u2019 mainstream success will be short-lived or permanent, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurryface <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has resonated with enough listeners and caused enough conversation to earn it\u2019s rightful place as a cultural icon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twenty One Pilots are busy rehearsing for their international Emotional Roadshow arena tour that\u2019s set to take them into early 2017.
