Review of Lauren Mayberry’s debut solo performance at the Scoot Inn on 02/26/25
Scottish singer-songwriter Lauren Mayberry, best known as the magnetic frontwoman of Chvrches, proved she is just as commanding on her own during her solo debut performance in Austin, TX on Thursday night. Taking the stage at the Scoot Inn, Lauren Mayberry delivered a spellbinding set, performing the entirety of her first solo album, Vicious Creature, to an intimate yet electrified crowd.
Backed by talented musicians Heather Nation on guitar and Marian Li-Pino on drums, Mayberry brought her infectious energy and emotional depth to the stage. Dressed in a flowing, ethereal outfit that shimmered under the stage Lichter, she seamlessly blended her signature synth-pop roots with raw, introspective storytelling.

One of the night’s most memorable moments came when Mayberry clutched a vintage telephone—one of the key props from her Vicious Creature era.
The setlist featured standouts like the hauntingly beautiful “Shame”, the powerful anthem “Change Shapes”, and the deeply personal “Are You Awake?”, each track met with an impassioned response from the crowd. Fans, many of whom have followed her journey from Chvrches to this bold new chapter, sang along, hanging on to every word.
Lauren Mayberry’s solo debut album, Vicious Creature, was officially released on December 6, 2024, through EMI Records, marking a significant evolution in her artistry. If her performance at Scoot Inn is any indication, she has carved out a space that is wholly her own—one where vulnerability meets power, and where she continues to redefine what it means to be an artist in constant transformation.
