Forget the DeLorean and ditch the TARDIS because The Offspring are taking us back in time this summer. For the first time in several years the California based punk rock band are touring North America and partnering up with old friends Bad Religion and Pennywise for the Summer Nationals Tour which will kick off in Pittsburgh on July 29th.
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the band’s first mainstream success Smash, The Offspring will be performing the album in its entirety for the first time ever. Having sold over 12 million copies, Smash remains the most popular independent record of all time.
Bad Religion will be bolstering the tour with a huge repertoire between the classics and the newer successes from Weihnachtslieder. Alongside them, Pennywise will be showcasing songs from their upcoming album with Epitaph following the return of lead singer Jim Lindberg after a much-too-long four year hiatus.
If hearing these names together brings back some memories it’s probably because this isn’t the first time these guys have toured together. In 1994, during the rise of California punk bands, The Offspring, Bad Religion and Pennywise sold out 3 days at the Hollywood Palladium when Epitaph Records sponsored the original Summer Nationals. Now this is the kind of family reunion I could stomach.
Selected dates will also feature performances from Stiff Little Fingers and The Vandals.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, May 16th for all venues except for the Pittsburgh show which goes on sale May 17th.
A special anniversary edition of Smash is also expected to arrive in mid-August.
