Heavy metal cellists Apocalyptica have released “Cold Blood” for streaming from their upcoming album Shadowmaker set to drop in April this year. Different from their seven studio albums which included guest vocalists in most, Shadowmaker has one voice throughout.
“It’s a totally new kind of record for Apocalyptica especially because we have one singer on the whole album and I think it’s making the whole album more solid,” the band’s Eicca Toppinen recently told The Rockpit.
Franky Perez is that one singer, found through the record company’s ‘quiet’ search for Apocalyptica’s single voice to not only record the album, but tour with the band, as well. Eicca says Perezย will make working circumstances more comfortable, not having to depend on people outside of the band.
“And I love Franky’s voice,” Eicca added, “he’s not just a regular singer. He has a very soulful sound and he’s able to sing different styles- which is perfect for [us] because our songs are not only heavy metal, it’s a variety of different colors and different dynamics.
“And the singer needs to match that and I think Franky is a perfect match.”
Whether Franky Perez becomes the permanent vocalist for Apocalyptica will not be known until after they experience a solid tour together, with their first showsย to give fans a taste of their new albumย beginning inย Melbourne for Australia’s epic Soundwave this month. Apocalyptica will then support Sixx:AM in North America, their European tour later this year in October and November.
